Downtown Mount Airy North Carolina Portrait Session || Calle Fulton

Hello friends! I am so excited to bring Calle’s downtown session to you today. We started in an unconventional place for our shoot, then we branched out into the main street of Mount Airy searching for white, fluffy flowers. I just enjoyed talking with Calle, and getting to know her even more. I found out that she loves the small town life, and has big dreams for her future. I am so excited to see where those dreams take you girl!

I hope that you enjoy this session as much as I do.

2016: A Year in Review Part II

To continue this post from the previous blog post, which you can find here, 2016 had a few more things to throw at me before it was over. As I mentioned in the last blog post, my personal life started taking a turn for the worse. I found myself very lost, confused, hurt, and scared for what the future held. I ended up asking God questions that I never thought I would find myself asking Him, and even being just a little bit angry. I asked Him, “Why, why is this happening?”, and “What did I do to have all this pain, and rejection in my life? Do you know what’s so great about God though? He still loved me through it all. No matter what questions I had, or even if I had gotten a little bit angry, He still loved me, and gave me the answers I needed. It wasn’t always what I wanted to hear, but it was the truth I needed to get back on track, and headed in the right direction.

I would say by November I started growing more, and more not only in my faith, but in all aspects of my life. I had to choose to surrender some situations, and people in order to have what God wanted me to have. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, but the peace I gained was worth it. So did I get my happy ending at the end of 2016? Oh I was so close, but 2016 wanted to throw something else at me before it left. It hit me with a mystery virus on Christmas Eve. Why was it a mystery? The doctors did 2 flu tests, checked me for strep, checked for 1 other virus it could’ve been, but everything came out negative. It left me very, very sick until Friday of last week.

I think that was 2016’s way of throwing one more punch at me, but it didn’t get me down. I am coming back stronger, and better than I was before. So 2017, bring it on, I am ready for you.

For now enjoy some more highlights of the wonderful people I got to work with last year.

Abigails Downtown Boone North Carolina Portrait Session

Abigail had contacted me a while back that if I was ever in Boone, that she would be interested in doing a shoot with me. Well, I made a trip up to Boone a couple weeks ago, and we made some magic happen. Abigail has the sweetest personality, and such a cute sense of style. At this moment, she is attending Appalachian State University as a freshman. App State during the fall is just beautiful! I hope that you enjoy these images just as much as I have, and it was so great getting to know this sweet soul.

Senior Style Inspiration: Fall Style

Fall is my favorite season to photograph sessions in. The light changes, the leaves start turning different colors, and falling. It is the time of year for Pumpkin Spice everything at Starbucks, and Tortilla Soup at Chick-Fil-A. It’s the time of the year when I get to break out my tunics, leggings, scarves, cardigans, and on the occasion my sweaters. It’s just the best!

The most frequent question I get asked is, “What should I wear?” So, I put together 2 different fall inspired styles for you. If you’re not sure what to wear to your portrait session, feel free use these posts for inspiration.

Senior Style Inspiration Fall Style

Burgundy is definitely in for fall this year, and it’s such a beautiful color. I added a gold necklace just to break up the darkness of the outfit.

Of course I had to break out my combat boots with this outfit. These are so comfy!

Reynolda Village and Gardens Senior Styled Shoot

Saturday turned out to be one of the best days I have had in a while. I had an idea for a styled shoot at Reynolda Gardens, and Village ever since I shot Madison Whites’ senior prom images there. It is a gorgeous venue filled with beautiful seasonal flowers, trails to exercise on, shopping centers, various restaurants on the property, and of course, the famous Reynolda House hidden right behind the front entrance. I could spend all day there, and just in the garden section, because it’s so peaceful.

For this shoot I enlisted the help of graphic artist Ashley Newton, and asked her to create typography that we could use. Julia Haynes, and Karlie White were our beautiful models for the day, and these girls have great style. The more we discussed the shoot the more excited we all became, and on the day of the shoot everything just seemed to flow so smoothly.

I wanted the theme of the shoot, to resound the mission and vision of my business. I want young girls to know how much they are loved, that they are more than enough, and they are worth more to gold to God. Being a teenager is hard enough with all the “changes” you have to endure from age 12-18, and there is all sorts of pressure from society too. That’s why I want to work so hard at making this blog a source of inspiration, light, and hope, no matter if I do something different one day. You’ll always have these posts to look back on.

I hope these images fill you with as much joy as they did me.

Story time: Once we got settled into the shoot, and things progressed we had a word for the day, “Smize” It means to smile with your eyes, but every few images I would find myself saying, “Okay, now smize.” By the middle of the shoot the girls were like, “We know, we know, smize.” We couldn’t help, but laugh every single time.

The sunlight peeks through these trees so beautifully, and just makes Karlie’s eyes pop.

I did some head-shots for our beautiful graphic artist Ashley too. She’s so beautiful, and photogenic!

Even though we couldn’t shoot inside any of the greenhouses, the outside of them was just as beautiful. We would’ve went to more doors, but it was high noon. This was the only door that was even remotely shaded, and not directly facing the sun.

Cana Virginia Senior Session

When Brady first mentioned he wanted me to his senior session I was delighted. When he mentioned he had 8 horses, I have to admit I turned back into a little kid. Everything within me was jumping up, and down that I would get to be near horses again, and we had quite an adventure on this shoot.

We met at this house, and drove down to his grandfather’s property which has an amazing view of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance. We started our shoot at this beautiful oak tree with ivy running, and twisting up the sides.

I love when the sun starts getting low, because it creates this nice silhouette.

Getting to this beautiful river was quite an adventure. We took Brady’s ranger, and drove down some steep roads, went past his deer hunting stand, across a beautiful open field, and finally ended up at the river. These shots look effortless, but don’t be fooled. Those river rocks were super sharp, and I may have almost face planted a couple times, but it was the best!

This beautiful horses name is Shadow. Brady has been riding horses since he was 3 years old, so he knows a thing or two. He even got Shadow to pose for me with the help of his dad.

Abby Bedsaul North Carolina Senior Portrait Session

It is officially Abby’s senior year in school, and I am so proud of her, and all her accomplishments. She is a kind hearted person with a passion for dancing with the Rhythm on Main company here in our town. I have seen this girl dance before, and she blew me away. Loved it! So naturally when she contacted me to do her senior portraits I was thrilled, and even more thrilled when she explained that she had a small sunflower patch in her backyard.

I hope you enjoy looking at these senior images as much as I enjoyed taking them. 🙂

We had to fight to the sun just a tad bit, and the rain. The sunflowers on the back side were dying out, and losing their petals. So we used the front side, and every time I started to snap, the sun would pop out from behind the clouds. But we still made it work, and had so much doing it.

When she told me she had bubbles to use for the shoot, I already had the images in my head, and knew how I wanted to use them. A special thank you to her mom for helping us out with these shots.
